It has been identified that over time, the pressure relief valve located in the housing cap (Chrysler OE Cap P/N: 68191350AA) can detach from the housing cap and migrate up the center tube of Premium Guard oil filter PG6296EX (more common in cold weather conditions). To prevent this failure mode, Premium Guard redesigned the filter with integrated rails in the center core that will capture the relief valve poppet if relief valve failure occurs. The valve will only be able to move a quarter of the way up the center core, ensuring it does not reach the top where it could obstruct oil flow. This prevents engine failure due to oil starvation.

When installing the PG2222 oil filter, be aware of these key issues to ensure a proper fit and avoid leaks. Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep with 2.0L & 2.4L Engines: The oil cooler’s through bolt can loosen over time, causing leaks. Always check and tighten it before installing the filter. GM Vehicles (applies to many applications but not all): Many GM applications have tight filter locations, making hand-tightening difficult. The filter must be tightened 1 full turn past contact—use a cap wrench or strap wrench if needed. Follow these best practices for a secure, leak-free installation.
